Title: Measuring magnetic fields with mercury vapour for the search of the neutron electric dipole moment
Abstract:
The neutron electric dipole moment (nEDM) is the coupling of the neutron spin to an external electric field. A better measurement of the nEDM would increase the sensitivity to CP-violating Beyond Standard Model physics and allow better constrains on the processes leading to matter-antimatter asymmetry.
This talk will present the n2EDM experiment being commissioned at the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland) that aims to improve the nEDM sensitivity by one order of magnitude. I will present my contributions to the collaboration, focusing on quantum magnetometry with mercury vapor, which provides an in situ monitoring of temporal fluctuations of the magnetic field. I will also present the research carried out at LPSC on the deeper understanding of atom-light interaction for mercury.
