Description
Despite its phenomenal success, there are a few issues that clearly
point towards the necessity of physics beyond the Standard Model (SM).
Thus, the SM should be viewed as an effective theory valid up to a
certain energy scale. Given that no signs of new physics have been
found at the LHC so far, this scale seems to be higher than suggested
by arguments based on the hierarchy problem. In this talk a critical
review is given of arguments where the scale of new physic might be.
The scenario for a very high scale of new physics is considered and
the interplay of high-energy and low-energy searches is discussed.
