Description
Over the last few years, funding agencies, publishers and the media
have started talking of "Open Science": some funding agencies have
requirements ranging from articles to be made accessible to all,
through data to be shared publicly. Most publishers have started
journals where authors have to now pay to openly publish their
articles. The media has run stories about the duty of publicly funded
science to be open.
We will discuss some of these recent events and related initiatives in
the field of particle physics. We will start with Open Access
publishing, and the SCOAP3 initiative. We will consider how Open Data
trends in other fields are influencing developments at the LHC
experiments and initiatives such as the recent publication of the
Higgs likelihood by ATLAS. We will look into some general tools to
make data available and citable, both in general, and within INSPIRE,
the particle physics information platform.
