Data quality assessment and search for new tt resonances in ATLAS
Abstract:
In the Electromagnetic calorimeter of ATLAS a specific coherent noise has been observed. As the precise source of this noise is not fully understood a precise characterization is required. With the restarting of the LHC and the new setups it implied, a careful monitoring of such noise was needed to ensure a low rejection of data. I'll present first the aspects of data taking with ATLAS at the LHC needed to understand the main aspects of the problem. Then I'll describe what are Noise bursts in details and how we manage to remove them. Finally, I will show an original result discovered in 2015.
In the second part, I'll give some aspects of the search for resonances in the top quark pair invariant mass with ATLAS. An heavy resonance may decay in top quarks with a high momentum. It induces a merging of the top decay products called: the boost. I'll highlight those problems and show the current limitations that need to be surpassed.

Interpreting LHC searches for new physics with Simplified Models
Abstract:
ATLAS and CMS have performed a large number of searches for physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). The results of SUSY searches are typically presented in the context of Simplified Model Spectra (SMS), containing only a few new particles with fixed decay branching ratios, yielding generic upper limits on the cross section as a function of particle masses. The interpretation of these limits within realistic BSM scenarios is non-trivial and is best done by automated computational tools.
I will first introduce the basic ideas of SMS interpretation and the public tool SModelS that can test a given BSM model against LHC results by decomposing it into its SMS components. Then I will discuss applications to different BSM scenarios, in particular sneutrino dark matter.
