Description
Titre : Heavy flavor probes for heavy-ion collisions in Alice's central barrel. Résumé : The analysis of Au-Au collisions at $\sqrt{S_NN} = 200 GeV$ at RHIC has shown that a new phase of matter, the Quark-Gluon Plasma (QGP) was created in these collisions, thanks to the large temperature and energy density reached. The Alice experiment at LHC, with a center-of-mass energy 27 times larger in Pb-Pb, plus p-p collisions at 14 TeV, will allow for more accurate studies of the characteristics of the QGP as well as for tests of QCD. A consequence of the higher energy available is the predicted abundant production of heavy quarks (c,b) in both collision systems. We will discuss how Alice will benefit from this to improve our understanding of such collisions, thanks to heavy flavor probes which will be described. We will focus on those which involve topological considerations in the central barrel.
