Description
Ultra High Energy Cosmic Rays (UHECRs) are messengers of the extreme universe. They are accelerated to energies around or above 10^(18) eV, beyond the reach of man-made accelerators. As they arrive on Earth, they will interact with the atmosphere, producing Extensive Air Showers (EAS). The Pierre Auger Observatory (PAO) has been studying these EAS through an hybrid detection strategy for more than a decade, deepening our understanding of UHECRs. But there are still open questions, that is why the AugerPrime upgrade is underway, and the LPSC is contributing to it, in part by assembling Scintillator Surface Detectors. Of particular interest in the UHE landscape are photons, detecting them or constraining their flux could give us some clues on the flux suppression at the highest energies, potential sources of UHECRs and constrain astrophysical scenarios. After a description of UHECRs and the PAO, this presentation will describe the work that has been done on the construction and validation of the SSDs, before going into the photon-search analysis that has been developed.
