Description

The thermal Sunyaev Zeldovich effect, a tiny spectral distortion of the cosmic microwave background caused by hot gas of electrons in dark matter halos, enables us to detect all the galaxy clusters of the observable universe.  We will start by reviewing the SZ effect from galaxy clusters and current measurements. Then we will study the parameter dependence of its power spectrum and the latest constraints, obtained by comparing our theory prediction with data from the Planck mission. Finally, we will give an overview of complementary approaches that are based on cross power spectra between the SZ effect and other tracers of the matter over-density field. With forthcoming measurements from Atacama Cosmology Telescope and The Simons Observatory, combined with accurate cluster mass calibration that will be provided by Euclid and LSST, the power spectrum of the SZ effect is expected to become a key observable in cosmology and astrophysics.
