Abstract: The RICOCHET experiment is currently being deployed at the Institut Laue-Langevin, a nuclear research reactor, and aims to precisely measure the CENNS (Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering) process at low energies. This requires precise knowledge of the surrounding background, against which a three-fold strategy is applied: an active veto against cosmic particles, passive shielding in lead and polyethylene to attenuate gamma and neutron backgrounds, and simultaneous measurement of ionization and heat signals to discriminate electronic and nuclear recoil. Prior to the installation of the RICOCHET cryostat, a campaign to measure the radiogenic and reactogenic gamma background was carried out inside the detector shielding using a dedicated HPGe (High Purity Germanium) detector. This seminar will present the gamma background model developed from these measurements, and highlight some comparisons with data recorded during the commissioning phase.

Abstract: The axion solution to the strong CP puzzle has the advantage of providing a dark matter candidate. This has motivated a lot of research on axions and axion-like particles. In the spirit of minimality, it is relevant to ask whether the axion could be involved in other inconsistencies of the Standard Model. In particular, the cosmological role of the axion could be improved, leading to new phenomenological constraints or experimental setups sensitive to axionic physics.
