SEMINAIRE ASTRO/COSMO : Probing the Physics of Galaxy Formation with Next Generation Extragalactic Neutral Hydrogen Surveys par Chris Power (Australie)

Description
Neutral hydrogen is the fundamental building block from which galaxies are made, yet remarkably little is known about how the neutral hydrogen content of galaxies evolves over cosmic time. This will change dramatically with the advent of facilities such as the Atacama Large Millimeter/Submillimeter Array (ALMA), the Australian and South African Square Kilometre Array pathfinders (ASKAP and MeerKAT), and ultimately the Square Kilometre Array itself. In this seminar I will describe what current state-of-the-art galaxy formation models predict for the neutral hydrogen content of galaxies over cosmic time, and how extragalactic HI/H2 surveys on ASKAP, MeerKAT and ALMA over the coming years will provide important insights into how galaxies form.
