In this lecture we will give an introduction to the foundations and techniques of Lattice Gauge Theory. We will start by an explanation of the quest of a non-perturbative formulation, then give a brief description of the main concepts. Subsequently we will provide results of the main successful applications of the lattice discretization of gauge theories. We will conclude by presenting some of the prominent modern challenges
