Description
In particle detection, diamond shows excellent performances compared to silicon especially when it comes to radiation hardness. This leads to some unique challenges in the design of the readout electronics: Wide bandwidth, low noise and linearity.
New kind of detectors based on large area diamonds is proposed to be used in fast time and energy measurement for medical applications such as the case of hadrontherapy. A precise estimation of the energy is required to elaborate spatial tagging “Spectroscopy”. The classical measurement methods for energy estimation were performed using analog designed circuits (CSA amplifier + analog shaper) followed by an ADC, this combination consumes harshly in both power and area. The objective of this project is to model and design a new architecture where the shaper is integrated into the ADC followed by numerical treatments. With this, we can aim – using a less complex analog circuit – for higher resolutions with lower power consumption and surface.
