Postdoc position in Bern

Instrument Scientist at ILL Grenoble

PhD and Post-doc positions at Heidelberg University (Physikalisches Institut)

We seek talented and motivated candidates to work on next-generation techniques for production and spin-selective detection of ultracold neutrons, in storage cells under liquid helium. Opportunities also exist, for exchange and collaboration with the PanEDM collaboration and the ILL.

Prior experience with neutron scattering, liquid cryogenics, or polarized nuclei is desirable. These positions will be remunerated as fractional appointments at the level of TVL-E13 on the German salary scale, according to the candidate's past experience.

Interested candidates are invited to contact Skyler Degenkolb for further details.

Postdoc position at TRIUMF

Postdoc position at the University of Kentuky

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Kentucky seeks to hire a Postdoctoral Scholar in the field of fundamental symmetries with neutrons. The group, consisting of three faculty members (C. Crawford, W. Korsch, and B. Plaster), ~15 graduate students, and many undergraduate students, has physics interests in the search for the neutron electric dipole moment, neutron beta decay, and hadronic parity/time violation, with technical expertise in magnetics, optical methods, data acquisition, data analysis, and simulations. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute a significant amount of her/his time to the group's responsibilities on the neutron electric dipole moment experiment under development for the Spallation Neutron Source. The candidate will also be encouraged to contribute to the group's efforts on experiments that will soon take data and/or in the development of future experiments. The initial appointment will be for a fixed term of one year, with renewal contingent on both parties' mutual satisfaction and continued availability of funding. In principle, the position is available immediately.

Inquiries regarding the position can be sent to Brad Plaster (brad.plaster@uky.edu).  Applicants should send a CV to B. Plaster, and also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent by the letter writers directly to B. Plaster.

The University of Kentucky is an Equal Opportunity Employer, for which information can be found here: https://www.uky.edu/hr/employment/uk-is-equal-opportunity-employer

Postdoc position at LANL

A postdoctoral position in Experimental Nuclear Physics is available with the Subatomic Physics Group (P-25), Physics Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory. We are seeking exceptional candidates to join us and work in the fields of fundamental neutron physics. LANL is leading major efforts in this field. Our current projects include: (1) development of a cryogenic experiment to search for the neutron electric dipole moment (the SNS nEDM experiment), (2) precision measurement of neutron decay parameters using cold neutrons (the Nab experiment), (3) a measurement of the neutron lifetime using bottled ultra-cold neutrons (the UCNτ experiment) and development of its upgrade (the UCNτ+ experiment), (4) development of a new room temperature experiment to search for the neutron electric dipole moment using the LANL ultracold neutron source (LANL nEDM experiment), and (5) development of an experiment to measure the neutron beta asymmetry using ultracold neutrons (UCNA+ experiment). In addition, we are exploring applications of ultracold neutrons for material characterizations.  For this search, the successful candidate is expected to work on our SNS nEDM effort. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to publish her or his results to the international community and to further his/her career by speaking in a variety of venues. She or he will join teams of other postdocs and staff members as well as university collaborators.

For further technical information, please contact Dr. Takeyasu Ito at 505-606-1985 or ito@lanl.gov, or Dr. Steven Clayton at 505- 665-2827 or sclayton@lanl.gov.
